Mustafa Aydın placed third at the 2020–21 SCA Turkey Brewers Cup. Co-founder Ahmet Sait Boğatekin holds SCA certificates in green coffee, sensory, barista and roasting, and Gökhan Kural has worked behind bars since 2010. The three planned Kernel before the pandemic and launched in 2021.
Single origins have included Ethiopia Konga, Colombia Vergara Red Bourbon and El Salvador Altamira, roasted at a workshop in Hasanpaşa that opens by appointment. In Suadiye, nearly all the seats are on a covered terrace along the street, where a long curved banquette runs down the glass wall, shared with a house cat. Inside the sliding glass front there is only a terrazzo-fronted counter, and a second terrace with a retractable glass roof wraps round the corner.
